Funding and Eligibility
My Dad always says to me, “there is no such thing as a FREE lunch lad! – It sounds too good to be true!” Right? Well on this occasion my Dad is wrong – the Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA), in other words the UK Government, funds education and skills for children, young people and adults.
Why FREE Courses?
With £58 billion of funding, ESFA are responsible for making sure that funding is spent fairly. Within the plan there is the Adult Education Budget (AEB).
Funding isn’t available for everyone; there is some eligibility criteria. ESFA funded AEB supports 3 legal entitlements to full funding for eligible adult learners.
These are set out in the Apprenticeships, Skills and Children’s Learning Act 2009, and
enable eligible learners to be fully funded for the following qualifications:
English and maths, up to and including level 2, for individuals aged 19 and over, who have not previously attained a GCSE grade A* – C or grade 4, or higher, and/or first full qualification at level 2 for individuals aged 19 to 23, and/or first full qualification at level 3 for individuals aged 19 to 23.
You can make this budget work for yourself or if you are responsible for organising training for your colleagues at work – you can also take advantage.
