NCFE Level 2 Certificate in The Principles of Dementia Care NCFE Level 2 Certificate in The Principles of Dementia Care The NCFE Level 2 Certificate in The Principles of Dementia Care aims to encourage learners to develop and gain knowledge of the principles of dementia care. This qualification is ideal for those learners who wish to learn about areas such as the benefits of positive communication, issues around the use of medication for those with dementia and the importance of person centred care. This programme will help learners to build up achievements in a way which is appropriate and meaningful. Connecting people…developing skills Connecting people…developing skills Course Content Upon enrolment each candidate will receive a learning resource / information pack which includes three parts: Part A Unit 1: Dementia Awareness • Understand what dementia is • Know the most common types of dementia and their causes • Understand factors relating to an individual’s experience of dementia Unit 2: The Person Centred Approach to the Care and Support of Individuals with Dementia • Understand approaches that enable individuals with dementia to experience well being • Understand the role of carers in the care and support of individuals with dementia • Understand the roles of others in the support of individuals with dementia Part B Unit 3: Understand the factors that can influence communication and interaction with individuals who have dementia • Understand how a person centred approach may be used to encourage positive communication with individuals with dementia • Understand the factors which can affect interactions with these individuals Unit 4: Understand equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care • Understand the importance of diversity of individuals with dementia • Understand the importance of person-centred approaches in the care and support of individuals with dementia • Understand ways of working with a range of individuals who have dementia to ensure diverse needs are met Part C Unit 5: Understand the administration of medication to individuals with dementia using a person centred approach • Understand the common medications available for individuals with dementia • Understand how to provide person-centred care to individuals with dementia through the appropriate use of medication Unit 6: Understand behaviour in the context of dementia • Understand how to respond to behaviours that are often used as a means of communication • Understand why some people with dementia will need additional emotional support Unit 7: Understand the benefits of engaging in activities in social care • Understand the impact of activity on physical and mental well being • Understand the social benefits of activities Completing the Course Each candidate will receive their own learning pack which includes three learning resources / information booklets and three paper-based assessments,one for each part.Candidatesmustcompleteallassessmentsintheagreedtimescalesandsubmitthese for marking by our team of qualified tutors. Your tutor will then provide feedback, advice and guidance to help you successfully complete the course. Upon successful completion of all three assessments, candidates will then be awarded the NCFE Level 2 Certificate in The Principles of Dementia Care. Candidate Application Candidates can apply to undertake this course by registering their interest with their employer(e.g.their line manager,training and development or personnel department). Employers can then register candidates by completing a standard Candidate Application Form(terms and conditions apply).Applicants will then be required to attend a group induction session at their place of work at a time to be agreed. Course Costs There are no fees for this course as the college has secured funding and has agreed to waive all fees. Therefore, there is no charge to either you (the employer) or you (the candidate).** Please note that when a candidate enrols on this course they will be expected to complete the programme of study within the allocated time scales. Should a candidate not complete the course in full, they will be required to pay a fee to cover registration, administration fees and learning material costs.
